At UniHunt Global ("we," "our," or "us"), we are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring the security of your personal information. This Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your data when you visit our website or use our university discovery platform.

By accessing or using our services, you signify that you have read, understood, and agree to our collection, storage, use, and disclosure of your personal information as described in this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service.

02 Information Collection

We collect information that you provide directly to us when you create an account, update your profile, or communicate with us. This includes:

Name, email address, phone number, and date of birth required for account creation.

school Academic Profile

Educational history, GPA, test scores (SAT, IELTS, TOEFL), and intended major.

Additionally, we automatically collect certain data when you interact with our platform:

  • Device Information: IP address, browser type, operating system, and device identifiers.
  • Usage Data: Pages viewed, time spent on pages, links clicked, and search queries.
  • Location Data: Approximate location based on IP address to suggest relevant regional universities.
  • Connected Google/Gmail Account Data: If you voluntarily connect your Gmail account for Social Account Discovery, limited read-only data is accessed as detailed in Section 4.

03 How We Use Data

The primary purpose of collecting data is to provide you with a personalized university discovery experience. Specifically, we use your information to:

Matchmaking Algorithms

Calculate your admission chances and match you with universities that fit your academic profile and preferences.

Application Management

Facilitate the submission of applications directly to partner institutions through our portal.

Platform Improvement

Analyze user behavior to improve our search functionality, user interface, and service offerings.

04 Google & Gmail User Data Policy

UniHunt provides an optional Gmail Social Account Discovery feature that allows users to connect their Gmail account to discover third-party educational and developer accounts registered with their email address. We take your privacy with Google user data extremely seriously.

Google API Services User Data Policy & Limited Use Disclosure

UniHunt's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

manage_search 1. What Gmail Information UniHunt Accesses

When you explicitly authorize UniHunt via Google OAuth, we request access strictly under read-only permissions (https://www.googleapis.com/auth/gmail.readonly and userinfo.email):

  • Primary Google Email Address: Used to confirm your account ownership and display connection status.
  • Email Metadata & Headers: Message subject lines, sender (From) email addresses/domains, and timestamps matching account creation queries (e.g., welcome emails, verification codes, security alerts).
  • Message Snippets: Short text snippets previewing message headers to verify account notifications.

Note: UniHunt does NOT request write, send, modify, or delete permissions, nor does it read or store full email body contents.

psychology 2. Why UniHunt Accesses Gmail Information & How It Is Used

UniHunt accesses Gmail information solely to provide user-facing features within the student portal:

  • Social Account Discovery: To automatically detect evidence of third-party platforms (e.g. GitHub, LinkedIn, Coursera, StackOverflow) associated with your email and display an aggregated dashboard summary.
  • Personal Dashboard Reporting: To show you verified dates and domains where your email address has active user registrations.

database 3. Data Storage & Retention

  • Storage of OAuth Credentials: Encrypted access and refresh tokens are stored securely in our database to allow periodic or user-initiated inbox scanning.
  • No Storage of Email Bodies: Full email messages and raw body contents are never stored on UniHunt servers.
  • Discovery Evidence Storage: Only minimal metadata (identified service name, sender domain, notification date, and message ID) is stored as evidence for your personal dashboard.
  • Retention Duration: Stored credentials and discovery records are retained only for as long as your Gmail account remains connected to UniHunt. Upon disconnecting Gmail or requesting account deletion, all OAuth tokens and discovery evidence records are immediately and permanently deleted from our servers.

block 4. Third-Party Sharing, Advertising & AI Model Restrictions

We adhere to strict prohibitions regarding your Google user data:

  • No Selling or Transfer: We do NOT sell, rent, trade, or transfer Gmail user data to third parties.
  • No Advertising Use: Gmail data is NEVER used or transferred for serving advertisements, personalized marketing, retargeting, or credit scoring.
  • No AI/ML Training: Google user data is NEVER used or shared to train generalized artificial intelligence (AI) or machine learning (ML) models.
  • Human Inspection Limits: No humans read your Gmail data unless explicitly required for security incident response, legal compliance, or with your affirmative permission for technical support.

link_off 5. How Users Can Disconnect & Revoke Access

You have complete control to disconnect Gmail or revoke access at any time:

Option A: Via UniHunt Dashboard

Go to Dashboard > Social Account Discovery and click "Disconnect Gmail". This action revokes local tokens and immediately wipes all stored Gmail credentials and social discovery evidence logs.

Option B: Via Google Account

Visit your Google Security Permissions page, select "UniHunt", and click "Remove Access".

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to track the activity on our Service and hold certain information. You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent.

06 Third-Party Disclosure

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer to outside parties your Personally Identifiable Information unless we provide users with advance notice. This does not include website hosting partners and other parties who assist us in operating our website, conducting our business, or serving our users.

However, non-personally identifiable visitor information may be provided to other parties for marketing, advertising, or other uses. When you apply to a university through UniHunt, your relevant academic data is shared securely with that specific institution. Note: Google API user data is strictly excluded from third-party disclosures or advertising uses as stated in Section 4.

07 User Rights & GDPR

If you are a resident of the European Economic Area (EEA), you have certain data protection rights. UniHunt aims to take reasonable steps to allow you to correct, amend, delete, or limit the use of your Personal Data.
